These gatherings are a chance to provide your ideas on the best routes and sites to include in our coastal trail proposal.

This step is part of a 3-year program to plan a Coastal Stewardship Trail along Lake Erie’s north shore. A hotspot for species diversity and rare habitats, the coastal zone boasts some of the highest concentrations of species at risk in Canada.

We know a trail can do more than join point “A” to “B”. For instance, a trail can connect habitats, link communities and join people and businesses. It can even inspire conservation action through signage or demonstration projects. A well-planned trail could also attract research, tourism and recreation opportunities. Your presence during this planning phase is critical for capturing a greater vision.

During the open house and workshops participants:

  • Learn more about the trail and our research during a casual, open-house format
  • Refine proposed routes to link local enterprises and points of interests
  • Weigh in on ways to inspire stewardship action

Who should attend? General public or professionals welcome. Anyone with an interest in conservation, tourism, recreation or local business. Those with knowledge of coastal highways and byways.

Can't make it to a workshop? You can weigh in from afar. We are developing surveys so you can share your thoughts with us online.

Our Open House will bring you up to speed on our recent research of preliminary trails and sites for a Lake Erie Coastal Stewardship Trail in a relaxed and open atmosphere. Introductory presentations by local partners and CCC staff will occur, along with a Q&A session. Feel free to ask questions of CCC staff and local partners, including how you can get involved!

Our directed Workshop sessions will look more closely at specific sites and routes under consideration in this exciting trail plan, and will ask for your local expert knowledge on these areas. You will have the opportunity to suggest new ideas and to tell us how our draft plan fits with the work your group is already doing on the ground. Help us highlight great stewardship in your area!
