Prairie
in Ontario Tall Grass
Prairie is not limited to the western Provinces in Canada and
the American Midwest. Patches of prairie can be found in
southern and northwestern Ontario. These relatively isolated
pockets of grassland communities are severely threatened, and
extremely valuable provincially. It has been estimated Prairie
now exists in a fraction of one percent(0.5) of the area it
used to occupy. Prairie represents a very tiny ecosystem in
Ontario, but it supports approximately twenty percent of
Ontario's provincially and nationally rare species
